Deadly Salad Dressing

With the advent of genetically modified crops there has been an outcry over the perceived dangers of tinkering with biology. But few people stopped to think about the risks, if any, inherent in the conventional production methods for fruit and vegetables sold in this country.

A government report has found that fruit, vegetables and groceries sold in all the major supermarkets had residues of pesticides above acceptable levels. Products are treated with an average of 11 different chemicals before they find their way on the supermarket shelves. These chemicals include known cancer-causing agents.

The bowl of salad we once thought so healthy now looks far less appetising. Supermarkets already have to make it clear on the label if a product has been genetically modified. Conventionally-grown produce should be subject to the same stringent rules. At the very least, we should be informed what chemicals coktails has made our fresh food look so good.
