Monsanto Press ReleaseSunday, 5th September 1999 |
Allegations Made By The Independent On Sunday Are Untrue, Monsanto SaysA story in today's Independent on Sunday newspaper inaccurately states that Monsanto is intending to abandon its business in the United Kingdom. This report, and the gossip cited from an unnamed source, are untrue, as the Independent was told. The facts are these: Monsanto has been in business in the United Kingdom since the 1920s, and we remain committed to our work and people there. We continue to work with UK farmers and UK regulators to do the research, safety testing and agricultural field trials that provide the information necessary to make decisions about our products. The number of trials we do in a given year may vary, but that is a function of the regulatory process in any country, including the United Kingdom, not a reflection of our commitment to our products or a particular market. We're sorry that innuendo and speculation would cause the kind of confusion the Independent article - and subsequent wire service stories - undoubtedly have raised.
