GM Squad In Wrong Field Boob

More than 40 GM food protesters destroyed a dozen acres of a crop - then found they had targeted the wrong fields.

They thought they were attacking experimental cereal crops but wrecked normal maize instead.

Around 50 demonstrators blitzed the farm at Caenby Corner, north of Lincoln, at the weekend.

Forty-six of the environmentalists, wearing the trademark lab coats and dust -masks of anti-GM campaigners, were arrested.

They were still being quizzed yesterday but were expected to be released on bail to appear in court later this month.

Farmer Ronald Duigid confirmed yesterday that some of the largest tests of GM crops in Britain were being carried out on his property.

Mr Duigid, who farms 11,000 acres, said: "There was a small army of young guys wearing white overalls, hoods and white dust-masks.

"I tried to point out to them that they were in the wrong field, yet they just carried on."
